Web Designer @ THE NEXT RACE STUDIO
Published: January 30, 2026
Job description
The Next Race Studio empowers culturally resonant brands to unlock their full potential. We blend sharp strategy, design, and technology with deep industry insight to build roadmaps that turn creative momentum into predictable performance.
We’re hiring a Website Designer to support a portfolio of DTC brands across highly creative, design-led site work. The right person has exceptional taste, a strong point of view, and the ability to translate a brand’s world into a refined digital experience without sacrificing clarity or usability.
---
The Role
You’ll design websites that function as a brand’s primary home online. This work is concept-forward and detail-driven: you’ll create full-page directions and the visual systems behind them, then carry that standard through iterations and build review.
This role is best suited for someone who:
- Produces original directions quickly and elevates them through detail
- Has a meticulous eye for typography, layout, proportion, and composition
- Understands how to balance editorial sensibility with shopping clarity
- Can manage multiple projects in parallel without quality slipping
---
Tools and Workflow (Non-Negotiable)
- All design work is done in Figma.
- We do not support web design files delivered in Adobe tools (XD, Illustrator, Photoshop), InDesign, Sketch, or similar.
- You must be fluent in Figma components, Auto Layout, styles, libraries, and developer-ready handoff.
---
Timeline Expectations
- You should be able to deliver initial design directions and page designs on a ~2-week turnaround (per project scope).
- Revisions are typically expected within 48–72 hours, unless the revision is materially complex or requires new inputs.
---
Responsibilities
Concept and Creative Direction (Design-Led)
- Translate brand strategy and references into distinctive web directions (layout language, type systems, rhythm, interaction sensibility)
- Develop high-quality page concepts and visual systems that can scale across a site
- Push for work that feels considered and specific, not templated
UX/UI Design for eCommerce
- Design and iterate on key Shopify surfaces:
- Homepage
- PDP (product detail pages)
- PLP/collection pages
- Landing pages (campaign, product, editorial)
- Cart and checkout-supporting experiences
- Build narrative and hierarchy into layouts so the experience reads beautifully and shops cleanly
Craft, Systems, and Build-ability
- Create component and section systems (especially for Shopify 2.0) that preserve the creative direction
- Define typography, spacing, layout grids, and reusable modules with a high bar for detail
- Design with development constraints in mind while maintaining creative integrity
Collaboration, Handoff, and QA
- Partner with TNRS strategy and development resources to keep work moving and unblock decisions
- Provide sharp, actionable feedback through iteration rounds
- Deliver developer-ready handoffs (annotated designs, responsive behavior, component states)
- Review builds against designs and flag fidelity issues across desktop and mobile
Experience Requirements
- 5+ years designing websites with a clearly elevated visual standard (DTC eCommerce experience strongly preferred)
- A portfolio that demonstrates:
- Original concepting and strong creative point of view
- High craft in typography, composition, and hierarchy
- Beautiful full-page experiences (not just components)
- Strong Shopify design experience (Shopify 2.0 familiarity preferred)
- Expert-level Figma skills (components, Auto Layout, responsive behavior, libraries)
- Ability to collaborate closely with developers and produce buildable, high-fidelity work
- High operational rigor: reliable timelines, organized files, and strong follow-through
- Ability to handle multiple site design workstreams simultaneously while maintaining quality and speed
Preferred (strongly)
- Experience designing editorial or content-forward experiences within commerce
- Comfort thinking about motion/interaction (even if execution is handled by dev)
- Familiarity with accessibility basics without compromising visual standards
---
White-Label + NDA Requirements
This engagement will be governed by NDA and white-label terms:
- Work is delivered on behalf of TNRS
- No public attribution, portfolio use, or case studies without written approval
- No direct client communication unless explicitly requested/approved by TNRS
- No subcontracting without written approval
- If you’re a studio, disclose who will be hands-on and how QA is handled
---
How to Apply
Please include:
1. Your setup
- Individual designer or studio
- If studio: who will be hands-on and what your review/QA process looks like
2. Portfolio proof (required)
- 2–3 examples of design-led website work (Shopify preferred)
- Share the specific pages you designed (home/PDP/landing) and what you owned
3. Speed + parallel work
- Confirm you can support a~2-week design turnaround per project scope
- Confirm you can typically turn revisions in 48–72 hours (excluding complex revisions)
- Briefly describe how you manage multiple projects at once
