Job description
The Next Race Studio empowers culturally resonant brands to unlock their full potential. We blend sharp strategy, design, and technology with deep industry insight to build roadmaps that turn creative momentum into predictable performance.
We’re hiring a Retention Specialist to support lifecycle email and SMS execution across a portfolio of DTC brands. This is a contract role for someone who operates with high ownership, strong responsiveness, and excellent attention to detail across multiple moving timelines.
The Role
You will be responsible for building, launching, and optimizing email and SMS programs across accounts you manage. You should be comfortable running parallel workflows across multiple brands and maintaining a high bar for QA, organization, and performance.
This role is best suited for someone who:
- Moves quickly and communicates early
- Treats deliverables with a “client business first” mindset
- Enjoys the craft of retention and stays engaged with what’s working now
- Can reliably dedicate a minimum of ~40 hours per month (with potential to scale)
---
Responsibilities
Campaign and Calendar Execution
- Own monthly email and SMS calendars for accounts you manage (planning, sequencing, send strategy)
- Build and deploy campaigns within Klaviyo and other ESP/SMS platforms as needed
- Implement segmentation, exclusions, personalization tokens, dynamic blocks, and logic
- Coordinate inputs across creative and strategy to keep launches moving
Flows and Automation
- Build, maintain, and optimize key lifecycle flows, including:
- Welcome
- Browse abandonment
- Abandoned cart
- Post-purchase
- Winback
- Replenishment
- Monitor flow health and keep programs current as offers, products, and priorities shift
- Identify opportunities to improve performance through structure, logic, and testing
Segmentation and Sending Logic
- Create and manage advanced customer segments and sending rules
- Maintain clean targeting logic across campaigns and flows (exclusions, frequency considerations, lifecycle stage)
- Translate performance patterns into segmentation improvements
QA and Brand Fidelity
- QA every send to ensure:
- Correct links and tracking
- Correct segmentation/exclusions
- Tokens render properly
- Clean mobile + desktop formatting
- Accurate setup across all message variants
Performance and Optimization
- Track key metrics (opens, clicks, conversion, unsubscribes)
- Run structured tests (subject lines, content modules, segmentation) and apply learnings
- Deliver clear weekly/monthly performance takeaways and next steps
Experience Requirements
- 3–5+ years of direct experience in email and SMS retention
- Expert-level Klaviyo experience (flows + campaigns end-to-end, conditional logic, segmentation, exclusions, personalization)
- Multi-ESP experience required (e.g., Mailchimp or other platforms) and ability to ramp quickly in new tools
- Strong segmentation and lifecycle thinking (journeys, targeting, and send logic)
- High operational rigor: timeline management, QA discipline, and consistent follow-through
- Comfort managing multiple brand workstreams with minimal hand-holding
---
White-Label + NDA Requirements
This engagement would be governed by NDA and white-label terms:
- Work is delivered on behalf of TNRS
- No public attribution, portfolio use, or case studies without written approval
- No direct client communication unless explicitly requested/approved by TNRS
- No subcontracting without written approval
- If you’re an agency, disclose who will execute the work and your QA process
---
Not a Fit If
- You need close oversight to stay on track or ship work reliably
- You’re not consistently responsive, proactive, and detail-oriented
- You’re uncomfortable operating under NDA and white-label delivery
- You rely on junior execution without transparency or process
---
How to Apply (Required)
Please include:
1. Your setup
- Individual specialist or agency/studio
- If agency: who will be hands-on and how QA is handled
2. Proof of execution
- 2 examples of lifecycle work you’ve built or managed (flows + segmentation)
- Include what you owned (build, logic, testing, reporting) and results if available
3. Capacity + working style
- Confirm you can reliably support 40+ hours/month
- Your time zone and typical response windows
